March 15, 2016

Who is Frimpeks®?

Frimpeks® specialise in products for the print and packaging industries. With operations in several countries including Germany, Turkey, UK, Russia and the USA they know a few things about the global label stocks and ink market. Adhesive coated paper and filmic labelstocks are produced in volume to the roll label converting market. More recent developments include substrates for the digital media market along with new UV ink solutions such as low migration products.

Founded in 2009 Frimpeks® GmbH manufactures over 60 million sqm of Hotmelt label stocks per annum. With capacity and plans for growth it has invested continuously under the leadership of Director Harald Proll. Based in Remscheid, the German site serves South and Western Europe, with a special focus on German speaking countries and the Benelux region. Providing print packaging converters with a continuous supply of Hotmelt, Acrylic and Solvent based laminates for predominantly label stocks.

This manufacturing capability is backed up by a professional and knowledgeable customer service, technical support and product development teams.

Harald Proll commented “Frimpeks® is a dynamic and fast paced business. We pride ourselves on the knowledge bank and skills of our people in order to provide added value to our customers day in, day out. In partnership with our new UK plant we can provide continuous supply of both hotmelt and acrylic coated label stocks. Our production capacity, flexibility and vast product range is what makes us stand-out in the European label converting market.”

The Remscheid site produces label stocks with both single and multi-layer construction. Offering paper and synthetic face materials and a wide choice of specialist permanent, heavy duty, opaque, deep-freeze and tyre adhesives.

More than your average label stock manufacturer

In addition to labelling substrates Frimpeks® GmbH supplies a comprehensive range of UV inks and varnishes to printers throughout Europe. Inhouse laboratories and technicians work tirelessly on developing formulations for customer lead applications. Harald Proll added “We are seeing real change in the market place and a desire to develop specialist ink, varnish and substrate combinations whilst driving down cost. This challenge is not particular to our business however with the global infrastructure behind us we are equipped to respond efficiently and where possible anticipate the areas for growth with proactive NPD projects. Our approach is very much one of partnership; engaging, listening and understanding the needs and challenges of our customers has been key to our continued success.”

Ever changing market

Like many other key players Frimpeks® have made use of the convenience of the internet, building online product selectors for converters to research the specifications and build the layers themselves.

Digital printing technology has also lead to wholesale changes in the way data can be personalised and printed on demand. This alone is driving short lead times so the ability to switch or share production across several sites is essential to delivering efficiency, flexibility and volume.

Recent trends in the use of ticket and tag products have also seen developments in the ways of applying spot and flood adhesive, with the correct tack or peel attributes. Product variants or uses illustrated with the Tag, Luggage, Ticket and Postal applications often use a variety of substrates that are either rigid, waterproof, wipeable, printed two-sides and/or tear resistant. The coatings also have to be flexible in order to perform in a variety of systems such as water-based, hot-melt, solvent and PU.

Summary

It is clear the intent for Frimpeks® as a business is to continue on its path for growth through a continuous investment plan. Adding to its portfolio which already includes label stocks including digital media; inks, varnish, adhesives, tapes and wood coatings. The two “hot melt” coater and laminating lines in Remscheid will soon be upgraded enabling a joint capacity of over 120 million m2 per annum.
